Job summary

Florida Department of Children and Families is seeking a CHILD PROTECTIVE INVESTIGATOR to conduct investigations into abuse, neglect, and special conditions affecting children. You will collect information via interviews and observations, assess safety, and coordinate emergency placements when needed.

The role requires reporting to authorities, linking families to resources, and performing danger assessments. Training includes mandatory courses and certification within 12 months.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED or equivalent with four years of law enforcement or military service; OR an associate degree plus two years of professional work experience or two years of law enforcement or military service; OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations of abuse, neglect, abandonment and/or special conditions for children.
• Collect information through observation and interviews with children, parents, relatives, and neighbors.
• Assess danger threats, child vulnerabilities and caregiver protective capacities to determine safety.
• Arrange emergency placement for a child that cannot safely remain in home.
• Notify state attorney, law enforcement and child protection teams.
• Provide families with service linkages to agency and community resources.
• Conduct initial/ongoing child present and impending danger assessments.
• Report indications of abuse or neglect to the Florida Abuse Hotline.

Education
