Job description

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute at the University of Michigan welcomes applications from scholars of all academic ranks for the 2027-2028 academic year.

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute at the University of Michigan works to foster the values embodied by Raoul Wallenberg—empathy, tolerance, leadership, and courage—by studying hatred directed against religious and ethnic communities, furthering cross-cultural understanding, and elevating civic discourse. Through teaching, research, and public engagement, the institute develops strategies to combat antisemitism, divisiveness, and discrimination.

Wallenberg fellowshipssupport original research, scholarship, and public-facing or community-based projects that support the mission of the Institute. Fellows will have the time and resources to work on their own projects while contributing to the university community. Research fellowships are renewable on an annual basis for up to a total of three years. Fellows who extend to second and third years will be required to either teach one course per year (in years two and three) or contribute equivalent service (such as curatorial work, student engagement, or public outreach). Scholars are also welcome to apply for single semester or single year fellowships. We are looking for a diverse range of scholars and practitioners to create a dynamic and innovative environment of research and collaboration.

Terms:

• Fellowships are renewable for up to a total of three years. Starting annual salary for fellowships is $68,000 and will be commensurate with experience. All fellows will be eligible for university benefits and will be provided with a research budget to be used during the tenure of the fellowship.

• Fellowsare required to be in residence and will be provided workspace at the Wallenberg Institute.
