D.R. Horton, Inc., is the largest homebuilder in the U.S. Founded in 1978, the company engages in the construction and sale of high‑quality homes primarily for entry‑level and move‑up markets. The organization also provides mortgage financing and title services through its subsidiaries.
D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a Ranch Hand in the Ranch Department. The right candidate will work in a large operation that focuses on providing a favorable habitat for native and exotic wildlife, including whitetail, mule deer, elk, axis, fallow, and blackbuck. The ranch is corporate owned and guest hunters are invited; no hunts are sold to the public.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain water supplies: water wells and troughs must be checked twice a week, more often in cow pastures and during summer months. Pivots provide wildlife forage.
- Feed the ranch year‑round: fill approximately 60 protein feeders using a feed truck and maintain corn feeders during hunting season.
- Clear and maintain shooting lanes to deer blinds.
- Deliver guests to and from blinds; harvested game is skinned, quartered, and sometimes capped for off‑site taxidermy. Typical hunting season is October, November, and December.
- Care for ranch and dude horses near headquarters; daily checks performed, minimal horseback work required.
- Perform maintenance on ranch trucks and ATVs, including oil changes, battery checks, and tire replacement.
- Maintain lawn care within irrigated and fenced guest areas, applying seasonal herbicide spraying around cattle guards and wells.
- Gather a small herd of cattle when it is time to sell calves.
- Provide occasional assistance to a sister ranch that raises whitetail breeder deer.
- Carry out basic building maintenance, such as plumbing, fixture repair, and ceiling fan upkeep.
- Conduct all business professionally and ethically to serve customers and enhance company goodwill.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Self‑starter who can work independently.
- Ability to give and receive direction.
- Apply common sense to carry out instructions in written or oral form.
- Proficiency with MS Office and email.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior ranch experience is a plus.
- One‑year certificate from college or technical school is a plus.
