Job description

Since 1971, New Horizons has been committed to “Keeping Kids First” by providing safe, therapeutic and loving environments to help our kids and families succeed. Every decision we make centers on the safety, well‑being, and long‑term success of the children in our care. We are proud to be a leader in child welfare in Texas, offering a range of specialized services across the continuum of care. New Horizons operated the longest standing Qualified Residential Treatment Programs (QRTPs) in the entire state— a pilot program that set the standard for Tier II Residential Treatment—demonstrating our commitment to high‑quality, trauma‑informed residential care for youth with complex needs.

In addition to our Residential Treatment Centers, we offer a fully accredited Child Placing Agency (CPA), supporting safe and nurturing foster and adoptive homes. Our Family Programs Division provides critical community‑based services through:

  • FAYS (Family and Youth Success) – strengthening families and helping at‑risk youth
  • Kinship Services – supporting relatives who step in to care for children in need
  • Family Resource Center (FRC) – providing wraparound support and local access to resources for families in crisis or transition

Together, these programs form a robust, integrated support system focused on building resilience, restoring hope, and achieving long‑term positive outcomes.

At New Horizons, you won't just be joining a team—you’ll be joining a movement to protect and uplift children and families across Texas.

Ranch Director

The Ranch Director oversees the daily operations of our residential child‑care program, ensuring youth receive high‑quality care in a safe, structured, and trauma‑informed environment. This role requires a highly engaged, visible presence on the ranch with ongoing interaction with youth and staff. The Ranch Director leads program operations, supervises Team Leaders and Direct Care Staff, manages crisis response, ensures compliance with licensing standards, and actively coaches staff in applying the agency’s philosophy and treatment model. The Ranch Director ensures the Keeping Kids First approach is consistently demonstrated across all shifts and departments and maintains proactive systems to protect children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee scheduling, staffing, ratio compliance, and daily program operations; identify staffing gaps and develop contingency plans.
  • Provide 24/7 on‑call coverage and respond promptly to crises or emergent situations.
  • Ensure relevant information (safety plans, crisis strategies, supervision needs) is communicated and implemented consistently.
  • Provide on‑the‑job coaching and training with emphasis on relational engagement and trauma‑informed practices.
  • Ensure all new hire, mandatory, and annual trainings are completed, documented, and tracked; become certified to train EBI, CPR, First Aid, TBRI, and Human Trafficking.
  • Conduct routine walkthroughs of houses, vehicles, and grounds to ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance.

  • Ensure safe medication delivery practices and compliance with all storage and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency policy.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation, including daily notes, incident reports, and required paperwork.
  • Review all incident reports within 24 hours and report serious incidents immediately per minimum standards.
  • Facilitate staff meetings that promote communication, accountability, and problem‑solving.
  • Manage petty cash, youth accounts, trip funds, and other financial responsibilities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Administrator, COO, and/or CEO.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • 3+ years of residential child‑care experience, including supervisory responsibility.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and crisis management skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trauma‑informed care and child development.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the role (walking, hearing, CPR/First Aid, and managing crisis situations including physical restraints as needed).
Base Salary Range
