Job summary

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

To work in partnership with the school staff, the school districts, parents/guardians, and case managers, to teach students and help them to meet learning and/or behavioral goals as outlined in the curriculum, the school’s plan and/or specialized plans, such as the Individual Educational Program (IEP).

Essential Functions

• Develop programming and teaching curriculum for age-appropriate programs for children with special developmental and behavioral needs.
• Develop goals and objectives for recreational and gross motor interventions such as sports, games, dance, drama, arts, and crafts to address the needs of students to improve physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning.
• Provide data for evaluations and documentation reports as required for review and update progress report cards quarterly.
• Provide creative non-fail, self-esteem building activities through all modalities, with emphasis in prereadiness, self-help, and behavior management.
• Develop lesson plans for efficient and effective teaching techniques, and substitute plans as needed. Follow behavior plans as stated in the IEP.
• Communicate with parents in a positive manner both on the phone as needed and during IEP meetings.
• Develop and implement daily class schedule cooperatively with other staff members.
• Collect data on daily and periodic basis for probe data to determine success and benchmark outcomes, share data on a periodic basis with Team Leader and Director of Special Education to determine success and accountability of teaching methods, teaching techniques and skills.
• Maintain room cleanliness, orderliness and storage of materials and equipment, keep classroom bulletin boards updated.
• Provide leadership and direction for paraprofessional staff within your classroom and other classrooms as needed.
• Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the staff handbook, policies & procedures manual and Code of Ethics.
• Maintain required licensures and certifications.
• Attend required training classes, staffing, in-services and meetings as requested.
• Assist in the completion of MAP-A, MAP and other state testing training as required.
• Participate in fundraising activities and public relations opportunities on behalf of the organization as able and appropriate.
• Meet all deadlines set by the Director of Special Education and/or other supervisors.
• Other duties as assigned.

Contribute to annual staff evaluations as requested for paraprofessional staff under your supervision. Also, participate with administrator in annual personal evaluation.

Supervisory Responsibility

Does not supervise others. Oversees the staff and students in the classroom.

Work Environment

This job operates in a school setting with exposure to high levels of noise, human elements such as (blood, urine, etc.); frequent interruptions and fast-paced working conditions. In this role standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines are routinely used.

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, climb or bend, getting up & down from the floor repeatedly. The employee must constantly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position with core hours of work 8:00AM-3:30PM

You must meet these qualifications in order to work for CDD.

Prior to being hired, you must have a high school diploma or GED.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to work for CDD.

You must have two forms of ID (driver’s license or state ID, social security card, birth certificate, U.S. Passport, etc.).

You must be willing to work evenings, weekends and some holidays.

You must have the ability to read and document on behaviors, understand and implement person supported training plans, and assist individuals supported with personal hygiene (e.g. tooth brushing, bathing, showering, shaving, dressing, etc.).

You must have the ability to pass training courses such as medication administration, Adult First Aid, Adult CPR, and Abuse and Neglect.

Must have reliable transportation to and from work, and a Motor Vehicle Record check is required for some positions. Auto insurance coverage may be required for some positions as well.

We prefer non-smokers, and it is helpful for ALL full-time staff to have a current, valid driver’s license, and be ableto obtain a chauffeur’s license if needed.
