Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1–2 years of railroad maintenance experience.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL may be required depending on jurisdiction.
• Certification for railway equipment operation (e.g., FRA-compliant training).
• Understanding of track geometry and alignment principles.
• Safety-focused with knowledge of railway protocols.

Responsibilities

• Operate rail-mounted tampers to align, level, and compact ballast beneath ties.
• Follow track maintenance schedules and procedures under supervision.
• Read track diagrams and orders; adjust equipment settings as needed.
• Conduct pre-operation inspections and basic maintenance on tampers.
• Maintain daily logs and production records; report unsafe conditions.
