Job summary

Alaska Railroad Corporation is seeking a railroad track worker to join a crew under a foreman to build, maintain, and repair track, including snow removal and drainage, in challenging conditions across ARRC locations.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, ability to read and follow English instructions, a valid driver's license, and willingness to travel to remote sites; prior heavy manual labor is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must be able to work safely with heavy tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Six months of heavy manual labor experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a clean record for three years.

Responsibilities

  • Removes snow, mud, ice and rock on rail bed, in tunnels, and culverts using picks and shovels.
  • Uses hand tools and power tools to install and adjust rail components and maintain existing track.
  • Levels rail by shimming or tamping ballast under low ties with hand tamps or power tools.
  • Cuts brush and cleans drainage ditches along track right-of-way.
  • May be required to drive company vehicles, e.g., pickup truck.
