Railroad Technician
Kingsport, TN

Be the next key member of our Rail Team as the PSC Group is now hiring! Spend your days along the rail tracks and work as a team with the engineer on the train to safely move railcars in, out and around the facility. This is a regular full-time position so if you are looking for a stable, long-term career in a booming industry, then consider joining the PSC Group family!

Work Schedule:12 Hour rotating shift (Days/Nights/Weekends/Holidays)

Pay Range: Starting at $20.00- $21.00/hr with opportunities for advancement

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Rail Switching Technician:
  • Examines track list to spot, separate, load and/or build railcars for shipment
  • Ensures railcars are properly connected and/or are secured by setting the brake
  • Separates loaded railcars that will be shipped from those that have been preloaded
  • Weighs all inbound and outbound loads and empties to ensure weights do not exceed
  • Completes any other duties that may be assigned to complete the job.
Rail Track Maintenance:
  • Repairs and rebuilds railroad tracks, using power and non-power hand tools
  • Pull spikes from ties, drills holes through rails for insertion and fastening of bolts, and replaces ballast
  • Operates large non-powered hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, cutters, and sledgehammers
  • Operates proper electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic hand tools such as drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, and grinders
  • Lifts and carries track material
  • Assists with re-railing of derailed railcars
  • Completes any other duties that may be assigned to complete the job
Job Qualifications:
  • Experience is a plus but not required, and paid on-the-job training is available
  • Must posses a valid, unexpired Driver’s License
  • 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.
  • Pass a drug screen, physical, and background check
  • Previous military experience and proven ability to follow procedures is a plus.
