Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks a Contractor in Charge (CIC) in Abilene, TX to oversee construction, maintenance, and safety compliance for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners.

The role requires at least 2 years in railroad environments, a valid driver's license, and the ability to travel 50–85% of the time. NRSS offers medical/dental/vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation/holidays, and a 401(k).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a railroad company, preferably in the maintenance of way or TY&E departments.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Ability for long-term travel assignments, including multi-month deployments.
• Successfully completes all required federal, client, and company‑specific training.

Responsibilities

• Oversee worksite safety and provide flagging services as needed in place of railroad personnel.
• Conduct job briefings and ensure compliance with FRA regulations during work near tracks (49 CFR 214).
• Monitor track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities to keep personnel safely clear of active tracks and equipment.
• Communicate with train dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors to coordinate train movements and grant permissions within working limits.
• Document all activities, including briefings, incident reports, logs, and forms for management and regulatory agencies.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
