Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking a Contractor in Charge to oversee construction, maintenance, and safety compliance for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners in Baker City, OR.

This field-based role demands a safety-first mindset, hands-on leadership, and the ability to travel extensively while ensuring all work complies with federal and company standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a railroad company preferably in the maintenance of way or TY&E departments.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Willingness to travel long-term (50–85% of the time).
• Successfully completes all required federal, client, and company-specific training.
• Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.
• Effectively communicates in verbal and written formats.

Responsibilities

• Oversee worksite safety and provide flagging services as needed.
• Conduct job briefings and ensure FRA regulations (49 CFR 214) compliance.
• Monitor track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities for personnel safety.
• Coordinate train movements with dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors.
• Document all activities and submit reports to management and regulatory agencies.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
