Job summary

Compass Rail Services LLC in Indiana seeks a Railcar Repair Technician to inspect freight railcars in service and perform minor repairs. You will document defects, ensure FRA and AAR compliance, and work with yard crews to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prior experience in mechanical railcar repair or inspection preferred.
• Knowledge of FRA and AAR inspection requirements.
• Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and interpret work orders and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual and manual inspections of freight railcars to detect defects.
• Execute minor running repairs such as brake shoe replacement and fittings.
• Document defects and determine serviceability per FRA and AAR rules.
• Complete inspection and repair records and defect tags.
• Coordinate with yardmasters and railroad staff for repairs.
• Maintain clean work area and ensure PPE and safety rules.
