Rio Grande Pacific Corporation’s New Orleans & Gulf Coast Railway is seeking a Railcar Mechanic (Carman) to inspect railcars, diagnose field issues, and perform light and heavy repairs, maintenance, and welding within the assigned geographic area.

Ideal candidates have solid mechanical aptitude, can read FRA regulations, communicate clearly, work well in teams, and endure physically demanding conditions with valid driver’s license and readiness to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support through field diagnosis, light repair, heavy repair, and routine maintenance of railcars.
  • Use mechanical knowledge of machines and tools to support repair and maintenance activities.
  • Perform welding and cutting tasks as needed.
  • Travel within the assigned geographic area.
  • Coordinate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers.

Rio Grande Pacific Corporation (RGPC) is a Texas-based, privately-held railroad holding company established in 1986, specializing in regional freight railroads, signal construction and design, passenger operations, equipment remanufacturing, dispatching services, and asset leasing. Operating across six states, RGPC manages four short line railroads covering 700 route miles. The company serves approximately 140 freight customers, including major Fortune 500 companies, across diverse industries such as agriculture, chemicals, lumber, minerals, and recycling.

Job Summary

New Orleans & Gulf Coast Railway is seeking an individual interested in the mechanical field as a Railcar Mechanic, also known as a Carman. This position is responsible for inspecting railcars in a safe and reliable manner, supporting operations with field diagnosis, light and heavy repair, and routine maintenance, and traveling within the assigned geographic area. The role requires mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance, with welding and cutting ability needed.
