Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is seeking a railcar maintenance technician for TZPR in East Peoria, IL. You will perform inspections, repairs, and maintenance on freight cars, ensuring compliance with FRA, AAR, and company standards, including air brake tests and rerailing.

Required are a high school diploma or GED, welding certification, and potentially a CDL. Two years of related experience and ability to lift 100 lbs are expected; familiarity with MS Word/Excel is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Welding certification required.
• CDL preferred.
• Four-year journeyman carman preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with railroad safety, operations, and FRA rules.
• Inspect car components for FRA, AAR, and company standards.
• Perform maintenance including air brake tests (scheduled and on-demand).
• Repair or replace wheels, safety appliances, trucks, brakes, couplers, yokes, and draft gears; weld broken parts or install new ones.
• Prepare repair and bill forms; document car repairs for monthly billing.
• Perform rerailing and other repairs in yard, on road, and at sites.
• Operate jacks, cutting torches, and hand tools for component work.
• Inspect and secure lading in open-top cars; operate forklifts and light cranes.
• Assist with other projects and duties as assigned.
