Job summary

Amtrak in Washington, DC seeks an experienced electrical and HVAC technician to inspect, test and maintain rolling stock systems in accordance with FRA standards. You will diagnose malfunctions using a range of test equipment and schematics to determine corrective actions.

Responsibilities include repairs or replacements of doors, electronics, pantographs, HVAC systems, and installing motors, generators, switches and transformers.

Qualifications

• HVAC experience.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience in electrical repairs and testing advanced electrical/electronic systems and reading circuit diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings.
• Experience in both A/C and D/C electrical systems.
• Must complete training and attain certifications applicable to assigned job.
• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot using schematics and multimeters.
• Knowledge and skill in the use of electrical tools, equipment, and the measurements necessary to meet established standards.
• Some computer skills.
• Must be able to lift items weighing up to 25lbs.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, tests and maintains electrical, electronic and HVAC systems on rolling stock in accordance with FRA and Amtrak standards.
• Diagnoses malfunctions using a variety of test equipment, PC, and graphical information to determine corrective actions.
• Repairs and/or replaces doors, electronics, signs, pantographs, and HVAC systems.
• Installs components such as motors, generators, switches, relays, batteries, and transformers.
• Performs electrical modifications and repairs or replaces components as necessary.
• Troubleshoots equipment to determine corrective actions and causes of failures.
• Maintains proper care and use of materials, test equipment, machines and hand tools.
• Works on electrical systems and components with AC and DC voltage.
