Job summary

LA Metro is seeking an experienced rail track inspector to conduct inspection and maintenance work on track systems, switches, and related infrastructure in the Los Angeles area. The role requires coordinating with supervisors and outside contractors, performing field tests, and ensuring compliance with FRA standards.

Applicants must have 2 years’ experience in track work or 5 years as a heavy construction laborer and hold a valid California driver’s license.

Qualifications

• 2 years' experience performing the inspection or construction of rail track work and related facilities OR 5 years' experience working as a heavy construction laborer.
• Valid California Class C driver's license

Responsibilities

• Inspect and repair track and switches in yards and on the mainline, including ties, ballast, direct fixation pads, appurtenant structures, and protective enclosures on rail transit right-of-way.
• Perform field tests during track and structure inspections to identify faulty track or maintenance problems; notify Rail Track Supervisor for corrective action.
• Oversee and monitor track construction or maintenance work performed by outside contractors using plans, prints, specifications, and track charts.
• Inspect rail track construction sites and work locations for compliance with Federal Railroad Administration track safety standards; contact appropriate representatives in event of work modifications or rule violations.
• Assist in identifying requirements for the development of track maintenance program and management of maintenance-of-way shop procedures.
• Perform necessary day-to-day track repair, rail replacement, and maintenance; use drills, spiking, and tamping equipment to maintain track right-of way.
• Recommend preventive and corrective track maintenance schedules.
• Prepare written reports and maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and annual rail track inspection records.
• Contribute to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out.
