Job summary

Eco Solution is seeking Rail Terminal Transload Operators for our Pittsburgh-area team. You will safely connect, monitor, and disconnect chemical transfer systems between railcars, ISO containers and tank trailers, aiming for zero contamination and zero spills while complying with federal and company safety rules.

Responsibilities include loading/unloading chemicals, positioning equipment, applying safety protections, monitoring transfers, sampling products, and performing daily checks.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Experience: chemical handling, rail yard, oil/gas or bulk logistics preferred.
• Certifications: TWIC card and HAZWOPER training required or to be obtained.
• Grooming & screening: clean-shaven for respirator fit; pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check; valid driver's license typical.

Responsibilities

• Transfer materials: Safely load/unload bulk chemicals using hoses, pumps and valves.
• Position & secure equipment: Line up railcars, set handbrakes, apply derails/chocks.
• Set up safety protections: Place blue flags, lockouts and isolation devices.
• Monitor transfers: Record weights/volumes/temperature and control pump rates.
• Sample products: Collect and document samples per customer quality requirements.
• Inspect systems: Daily pre-operational checks on hoses, fittings, containment and transfer equipment.
• Report defects: Document and escalate leaks or mechanical issues.
• Maintain cleanliness: Keep areas free of hazards.
• Wear PPE: Respirators, Tyvek, gloves and fall protection as required.
• Follow regulations: Comply with OSHA/EPA/FRA/DOT rules and procedures.
• Respond to emergencies: Implement spill/leak/safety breach protocols.

Eco Solution is actively recruiting Rail Terminal Transload Operators to join our Pittsburgh-area team. In this critical role you will be responsible for safely connecting, monitoring, and disconnecting chemical transfer systems to move hazardous and non-hazardous products between railcars, ISO containers, and tank trailers. Our priority is flawless execution: zero contamination, zero spills, and strict adherence to federal and company safety rules.

Operational Execution

• Transfer materials: Safely load and unload bulk liquid or dry chemicals using hoses, pumps, valves and ancillary equipment.
• Position & secure equipment: Line up railcars, set handbrakes, and apply derails or chocks to prevent movement during operations.
• Set up safety protections: Place mandatory blue flags, track lockouts and other isolation devices prior to transfers.
• Monitor transfers: Record weights, volumes and temperature readings and control pump rates to prevent overfills.
• Sample products: Pull and document product samples in compliance with customer quality requirements.

Equipment & Site Maintenance

• Inspect systems: Perform daily pre-operational checks on hoses, fittings, containment and transfer equipment.
• Report defects: Immediately document and escalate leaks, abnormalities or mechanical failures.
• Maintain cleanliness: Keep terminal areas, tracks and storage clean and free of hazards.

Safety & Compliance

• Wear specialized PPE: Use respirators, Tyvek suits, gloves and fall protection as required.
• Follow regulations: Maintain 100% compliance with OSHA, EPA, FRA and DOT hazardous materials rules and company procedures.
• Respond to emergencies: Implement emergency protocols for spills, leaks or safety breaches.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Experience: Previous chemical handling, rail yard, oil/gas or bulk logistics experience preferred.
• Certifications: Ability to obtain TWIC card and complete HAZWOPER training.
• Grooming & screening: Must be clean-shaven for respirator fit, pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check, and typically hold a valid drivers license.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Work is performed outdoors year-round in all weather. The role requires walking long distances on uneven ballast, climbing ladders up to 35 feet and lifting hoses up to 50 lbs. Shifts may include early starts, overtime and rotating weekend or night coverage based on train schedules.
