Job summary

V3 Companies, Ltd. in Chicago, IL, or Columbus, OH, is seeking a Rail Designer to join our Rail Group. You will contribute to rail infrastructure projects using Bentley's OpenRoads/OpenRail and AutoCAD Civil 3D, collaborating with 450+ designers and engineers.

You will design track geometry, prepare plans for yards and intermodal facilities, and support permitting and cost estimates while coordinating with other disciplines and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 2-5 years of related experience, including track design and layout (horizontal and vertical geometry).
• Experience with grading and drainage design preferred.
• Experience with rail yard and intermodal design preferred.
• OpenRoads Designer, OpenRail, Civil 3D proficiency.
• Interest in railroad association participation.
• EIT certification or PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and prepare engineering drawings using Bentley's OpenRoads Designer, OpenRail Designer, and AutoDesk Civil 3D for railroad and infrastructure projects.
• Design railroad track horizontal and vertical geometry.
• Prepare plans for railroad yards, intermodal facilities, and terminals.
• Design grading and drainage improvements for railroad projects.
• Prepare railroad utility permit applications and plans.
• Prepare plans for rail-highway crossing improvements.
• Perform quantity and cost estimate calculations.
• Prepare construction specifications.
• Collaborate with other V3 disciplines on multi-faceted projects.
• Handle client relations as needed.
