Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is hiring a Switchman to safely operate rail equipment and ensure timely freight delivery. You will receive hands‑on and classroom training, work outdoors in all weather, and grow within a dynamic rail environment.

The role requires vigilant safety practices, clear communication, and the ability to handle physically demanding tasks. Expect a full‑time schedule with 40+ hours weekly and varied shifts in a 24/7 operation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Good communication abilities and awareness of safety regulations.
• Background in a safety-sensitive environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Comply with federal, state, and railroad safety regulations.
• Communicate with team members using signals and radio for train/railcar movement.
• Operate track switches to determine train routes and movements.
• Inspect the condition of railcars in movement and at rest.
• Read rule books and documentation; assist with reporting.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
