Job summary

BNSF Railway in Cicero, IL is seeking Conductor Trainees to support safe freight movement. This full-time role includes on-call work, nights, weekends, and travel within the seniority region. Training for up to 19 weeks at a BNSF center in Overland Park, KS, relocation not offered, with a 60-day probationary period.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and communicate English.
• Able to work 40 hours per week, on-call nights, weekends and holidays.
• Able to lift up to 80 pounds and work in diverse weather.
• Union membership may be required per agreement.

Responsibilities

• Communications: receive, act on information, monitor and report daily work; climb on/off equipment; operate hand brakes; connect air hoses; interpret signals.
• Switching: operate track switches and derails; verify alignment.
• Train and equipment inspections: inspect cars, determine train make-up, monitor track conditions.
• Work in a safety-sensitive environment under varying weather conditions.
• Adhere to safety policies, PPE, and respond to emergencies.
