Job summary

Alstom in Ontario, Canada is seeking an on-site Electrical Technician to maintain PS&D systems, substation gear, UPS, and traction power equipment. You’ll work with engineering and operations teams to troubleshoot high voltage systems and ensure safety and reliability for a 7-day rail operation.

You will rotate shifts in a 24/7 environment, adhere to safety standards, and contribute to continuous improvement of electrical maintenance procedures while advancing in a global mobility leader.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with high-voltage electrical maintenance.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC power and control systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety regulations, including Ontario Electrical Code, OHSA and related standards.
  • Certification such as 309A or 442A in good standing.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing electrical equipment.
  • Strong communication skills in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Ability to use maintenance software for documentation and diagnostics.
  • Organizational and planning skills to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work in a 24/7 operational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the safety, availability, and reliability of the PS&D system, including power substations, UPS, cabling, and related components.
  • Access vehicles, tracks, spares, materials, tools, and procedures for PS&D maintenance.
  • Recommend and implement safer, more reliable maintenance techniques.
  • Diagnose and rectify failures and emergencies within established guidelines.
  • Support a 7-day rail operation by working rotating shifts and performing TPS maintenance.
  • Adhere to custodial, preventative, and rehabilitation maintenance schedules.
  • Inspect, test, and repair traction power equipment and substations.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and isolate malfunctions in TPS components.
  • Perform complex repair troubleshooting using hand and power tools and test equipment.
