Job summary

Norfolk Southern is seeking a conductor with strong safety awareness and the ability to operate remote control locomotives. You will be part of the extra board initially, building seniority for regular assignments and must be available on short notice.

Training lasts about 20 weeks with a mix of classroom and on-the-job instruction. You may travel and spend weeks away from home, and a union membership is required within 60 days after training.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must hold a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.
• Ability to report to work within 90 minutes.
• Must pass pre-employment FRA drug and alcohol screening.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling, drawbar alignment, hand brakes, and rider duties.
• Communicate effectively with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with FRA and company safety regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
