Job Summary:
This position is responsible for preparing patients and performing routine radiographic procedures according to physicians' orders and the procedure manual. The Diagnostic Technologist produces high-quality images and presents them with appropriate comparison studies and other exam results or pertinent patient information to the Radiologist for timely interpretation. Additionally, the Technologist supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and demonstrates a commitment to quality service for patients, families, the community, physicians, and staff.

Work Hours:
Varied Hours/Days (Based on Need): 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm, or Saturday 7:15 am - 12:15 pm
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for radiology examinations by confirming physicians' orders, verifying identities, and obtaining medical histories to ensure appropriate examinations and facilitate accurate diagnoses.
- Perform radiology procedures on all patient age groups and maintain clinical competency, evidenced by completion of an annual Competency-Based Orientation.
- Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, standards, and protocols to ensure effective operations and quality patient care.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge and understanding of diagnostic imaging services.
- Create a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors by supporting safety programs and adhering to radiation safety practices, including principles of time, distance, and shielding.
- Interact effectively with students, providing supervision and instruction.
- Support the MWH School of Radiologic Technology and cross-training programs.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies to ensure service continuity.
- Record and file patient and procedural data accurately for operational and billing purposes.
- Maintain competency in using iSite PACs, syngo, Soarian, and other image management systems.
- Participate in Performance Improvement activities using PDCA and LEAN methodologies.
- Administer contrast agents following established guidelines for selection, dosage, and concentration.
- Meet age-specific needs of patient groups as identified under Qualifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- ARRT registered or eligible in Radiologic Technology. If eligible, must pass the registry exam within one year of hire.
- Completion of an accredited two-year Radiologic Technology program or equivalent.
- VA State Radiologic Technologist License required for outpatient facilities.
- American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
- Three years relevant experience preferred.
Additional Responsibilities for Radiography Clinical Instructor:
Job Functions:
- Understand program goals, clinical objectives, and evaluation systems.
- Provide clinical instruction and competency evaluation for students.
- Offer constructive feedback to students.
- Maintain clinical records and assist in their development.
- Stay current professionally through ongoing development.
- Assist with daily clinical activities and student placement.
- Act as a liaison between the school, technologists, physicians, and staff.
- Attend instructor meetings and teach academic classes if requested.
Job Requirements:
- Proficient in counseling, instruction, and evaluation.
- Three years of professional experience.
- Active ARRT certification.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Deep understanding of radiographic procedures and exposure techniques.
- Genuine interest in mentoring students.
