About the Organization

The School of Dental Medicine at East Carolina University includes ten administrative offices and four academic departments, dedicated to educating dental care providers and addressing oral health care needs in North Carolina. The school operates clinics in Ross Hall and throughout the state, providing educational and clinical services.

Job Duties
Instructional and Research Responsibilities (65%)
  • Provide didactic and clinical instruction to predoctoral students and residents in radiologic technology, including image acquisition, radiation safety, and equipment maintenance.
  • Develop course materials, supervise imaging sessions, and assess student performance.
  • Coordinate with Continuing Education to manage radiology certification courses.
  • Prepare data for research projects.
Clinical Duties (10%)
  • Operate digital intraoral, extraoral, and CBCT imaging equipment.
  • Maintain patient scheduling, infection control, and patient comfort protocols.
Administrative and Supervision (10%)
  • Assist in hiring and supervising imaging personnel.
  • Conduct performance reviews and manage supplies and equipment.
Compliance & Quality Assurance (10%)
  • Perform radiographic unit performance surveys and safety inspections.
  • Maintain radiology quality assurance programs.
Technical Support (5%)
  • Assist with troubleshooting imaging equipment remotely and support image import/export processes.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduate of an ADA-accredited Dental Assistant Program or licensed as a Dental Hygienist in North Carolina.
  • At least three years of experience in radiologic technology education.
Licenses or Certifications
  • ADA-accredited Dental Assistant certification or North Carolina Dental Hygienist license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a Public Health Dental Hygienist.
  • Community Dental Health Coordinator Certification.
