Job Description

The Radiology Technologist I arranges patients for radiological examinations. Produces radiographs (x-rays) and images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. Uses pre-established imaging protocols and departmental policies to perform safe operation of imaging equipment and all related functions. Provides complete pre- and post-examination education to patients and their families. Initially, may require instruction and guidance but should develop into performing work under general supervision. Reports to Supervisor or Manager.

Responsibilities

  1. Exhibit clinical skills and knowledge of all diagnostic radiology equipment and procedures.
  2. Follow physician's orders and chart for any special instructions.
  3. Question patients before procedures to obtain history and explain procedures to ensure cooperation and reduce anxiety.
  4. Perform procedures efficiently and timely, maintaining quality and adhering to departmental standards.
  5. Coordinate radiology schedule with other departments to minimize patient wait times.
  6. Ensure patient and general safety by reporting hazards, using PPE, and following infection control practices.
  7. Practice radiation safety, including asking females of childbearing age about pregnancy, using shielding, and monitoring exposure with film badges.
  8. Perform equipment maintenance, report issues, and perform proper warm-up procedures.
  9. Complete documentation accurately, including exam data entry and patient history.
  10. Assist in other department areas as workload permits and keep areas stocked.
  11. Maintain a commitment to organizational service standards focused on values, service, and quality.
  12. Work rotating on-call schedule for 24-hour coverage.

Qualifications

  • Two years of clinical training in an AMA-approved program.
  • Post-high school vocational or specialized training.
  • Current ARRT certification and Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT). New graduates must be registry eligible and hold a Louisiana license or a temporary LSRT license, along with BLS certification.
