Job summary

Abilene Center for Orthopedic and Multispecialty Surgery is seeking a Per Diem Radiologic Technologist to perform radiographic exams and assist surgeons in a fast-paced clinical setting.

You will be responsible for accurate imaging, patient positioning, safety protocols, and maintaining records. Cross-training in related radiology tasks and collaboration with the radiology team are key parts of the role.

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform radiologic procedures as prescribed by a physician.
• Able to position patients and operate radiologic equipment safely.
• Maintain and protect patient records and images.
• Adhere to Universal Precautions and aseptic technique.

Responsibilities

• Adhering to principles of Universal Precautions and aseptic technique.
• Performs radiographic examinations and procedures as prescribed by a physician utilizing proper technique.
• Monitors and reports radiation safety issues to the Center’s Radiation Safety Officer.
• Maintains and safeguards films, prints, and records for each patient.
• Contacts contract radiologist when film needs reading.
• Assists with patient positioning and room turnover.
• Assists with operation and general maintenance of radiologic supplies and equipment.
• Documents concisely, precisely, and accurately on all records as indicated by policy.
• Assures patient and personal safety by maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment and adhering to center staff safety and health programs.
• Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors and other health care team members.
• Seeks guidance and validation when situations arise which exceed the employee’s capabilities.
• Maintains and increases standards of performance and education.
• Participates in quality assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care.
• Cross-trains as an Instrument Technician and may be required to assume and perform said duties.

Under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel, performs radiographic procedures to assist in a diagnosis of disease and injuries. The staffing of the Center is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.

Qualifications and Abilities

• Ability to perform tasks of a radiologic technologist efficiently.
• Ability to respond quickly, physically, and mentally when priorities and/or the patient’s condition changes.
• Ability to see, distinguish color and hear, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
• Basic computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Word).
• Uses problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.
• Ability to read and write (legibly), communicate appropriately and effectively, understand simple to complex instructions, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks and function independently without constant supervision.
• Operation monitoring – watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
• Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent, preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited school of radiologic technology.
• Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• One-year experience and/or training in surgical setting, preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, preferred.
