Job summary

SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is seeking a Radiologic Technologist/Sonographer to perform radiographic and sonographic examinations across multiple modalities on-site in Juneau, Alaska. You will maintain patient records and participate in quality assurance, while upholding SEARHC's mission and safety standards.

The role requires ARRT Radiography certification, RDMS pursuit or certification preferred, BLS, and willingness to work a Monday–Friday schedule with call readiness

Qualifications

• Certified radiologic technologist; ARRT in Radiography required.
• ARDMS in Abdomen or OB/GYN preferred or pursued.
• BLS certified; ongoing education and competency required.

Responsibilities

• Perform radiographic/sonographic examinations for diagnostic interpretation.
• Maintain accurate patient records and imaging files.
• Pursue continuing education and maintain departmental competency.
• Rotate through imaging modalities as needed; assist in MRI/CT as directed.
• Ensure radiation safety and QA program adherence.

Pay Range:$38.93 - $54.76The Radiologic Technologist/Sonographer must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients’ service on his or her assigned unit.
The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s/area/department’s policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Must provide radiographic/Sonographic examination of all body parts for diagnostic interpretation. Must exercise professional judgement in performance of procedures applying principles of radiation protection.

• Perform diagnostic medical radiography/sonography within department and other areas.

• Maintain patient records and files.

• Assume responsibility for departmental quality assurance program.

• Pursue continuing education.

• Transfer patient to and from radiology.

• In absence of supervisor, assume responsibility of department.

• Rotate shifts as required.

• Perform ancillary duties as requested by supervisor.

• Follow policies and procedures as set up by SEARHC Administration.

• Assist in general hygiene of department and self.

• Should be able to work well in situations of stress.

• Must be willing to able to take call and report to work within 20 minutes.

• Must be willing to learn other imaging modalities as Manager sees fit.

• Must be able to perform duties in two fields of imaging and willing to work outside of modality, i.e., Ultrasound, MRI, CT, Mammography.

• Must maintain competency in ancillary modality.

• Able and willing to perform other duties as assigned.

MAMMOGRAPHY

• Perform the following:

• Actively pursues five CEU’s Mammography credits per year documented per ACR/FDA requirements and kept in Radiology

• Performs 100 mammograms per year documented per ACR/FDA requirements and kept in Radiology

ULTRASOUND

• Perform all requested exams for diagnostic interpretation by a radiologist.

• Continue to seek a higher level of education with RDMS certification (Abd, OB/GYN, RVT, RDCS).

• Pursue continuing education to fulfill radiology and/or RDMS requirements.

• Responsible for care of transducers.

• Responsible for neatness of work area.

• Responsible for paperwork that accompanies procedure

• Assistance with ultrasound invasive procedures.

• Participate in the preparation of policy and procedure in this area.

• Consult with referring physicians.

• Care of Trophon station.

• Assists with all efforts to obtain accreditations.

• Actively pursues education in a changing field.

MRI

• Technically able to perform all requested procedures or to improvise with new studies.

• Responsible for care of coils.

• Responsible for paperwork that accompanies procedures

• Active part of policy and procedure preparation in this area.

• Converse with referring physicians regarding imaging procedures.

• Able to perform venipuncture.

• Magnet safety/ patient and staff.

• Able to perform quench procedure.

• Cleaning area.

• Processor care.

• Daily/Weekly QC

CT/INTERVENTIONAL

• Responsible for care of equipment in this area.

• Responsible for record maintenance.

• Assist with invasive procedures and knowledge of these procedures.

• Active part in the preparation of procedure in this area.

• Consult with referring physicians.

• Strive towards the goal of venipuncture.

• Follow standard precautions procedure.

• Alter routine protocols to provide quality care to pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.

• Change contrast levels per age group.

• Set up and run automatic injector.

• Familiar with contraindications of contract.

• Competent in tele-radiology transmission.

• Competent in sterile technique.

• Actively assist in supply inventory and ordering.

• Daily/Weekly QC

LEAD TECHNOLOGIST

• Work in conjunction with Imaging Manager and Director; support development and achievement of organizational goals and objectives.

• Review, edit, correct, and validate PACS to ensure accurate patient procedure image labeling.

• Ensure flow of work is organized and efficient.

• Assign daily staffing schedule.

• Respond to staff concerns promptly.

• Works to identify and solve operational problems.

• Assist in hiring staff.

• Coordinate new staff orientation.

• Serve as an expert resource for staff. Staff need to feel comfortable going to the lead as a resource for clinical or technical questions, patient or customer concerns, and process questions.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

• Attends department/organizational meetings, in-services, and disaster drills.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required:

• Current ARRT in Radiography OR

• Current ARDMS in one category (Abd or OB/GYN)

• BLS certification required within 45 days of start

• Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years

Experience Required

• Able to perform all diagnostic exams as related to assigned modality.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Tech I – ARRT or ARDMS in one modality (i.e., ARRT general radiography or ARDMS one category)

• Tech II – ARRT (CT, MR, MG, NM) or ARDMS certified in two modalities/ARDMS categories (OB/GYN, Abd)

• Tech III – ARRT (CT, MR, MG, NM) or ARDMS certified in three modalities modalities/ARDMS categories (RVT or RDCS)

• Tech IV – ARRT (CT, MR, MG, NM) or ARDMS certified in four modalities modalities/ARDMS categories (RVT or RDCS)

Travel Required

Travel may be required to provide services to various SEARHC sites.
