Job description

Join the hospital trusted by Chicago’s Southland, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, as a Radiology Technologist.

Under the supervision of the Supervisor, Radiologic Services, you will provide radiology services to inpatients and outpatients of all ages across all CHHD sites, including Harvey, Calumet City, Flossmoor, and Tinley Park. You will participate in ACR accreditation processes and maintain ACR standards for XR, as well as contribute to hospital-based quality assurance activities.

Essential Job Functions

  • Complete patient orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain attendance and punctuality according to hospital standards.
  • Provide a positive, supportive attitude to physicians, patients, families, and staff, in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety at all times.
  • Perform daily quality control on imaging equipment as per department protocol.
  • Maintain all required records and documentation for inspections.
  • Follow radiation safety practices for technologists and others, excluding US/MRI procedures.
  • Make minor equipment adjustments as necessary.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures during duties.
  • Check image quality and repeat exams if needed.
  • Explain protocols and procedures to patients and students when applicable.
  • Monitor safety hazards and prevent equipment damage.
  • Report equipment repairs immediately.
  • Obtain complete patient history before procedures.
  • Perform imaging to obtain optimal exams.
  • Maintain an organized work area for efficiency.
  • Assist colleagues as needed.
  • Complete patient assignments timely with minimal assistance.
  • Document procedures accurately and communicate effectively to ensure order completion.
  • Record any unusual incidents properly.
  • Perform all work according to quality standards.
  • Respect patient confidentiality and privacy, following HIPAA guidelines.
  • Introduce yourself to patients by name and title 100% of the time.
  • Explain procedures to patients within 5 minutes of their arrival.
  • Follow established procedures for imaging, ensuring correct labeling and history documentation.
  • Observe safety standards and legal requirements.
  • Apply age-specific knowledge for safe and effective duties.
  • Display patience and tact with patients’ families and healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in ongoing educational programs and workshops.
  • Attend mandatory in-services and seminars to enhance skills.
  • Set and review annual goals with the director.
  • Seek educational opportunities for growth and review progress during evaluations.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an AMA-accredited Radiologic Technology program and certified by the ARRT.
  • Active Radiography accreditation with the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety; registry-eligible applicants must provide proof of application for a temporary license.
  • Successfully complete and maintain CPR certification.
