Performs a variety of patient care duties and other professional activities as needed to facilitate patient care and treatment. Performs under the supervision of a radiology technologist. Assists in monitoring the flow of patient activities in the department.

Essential Functions

  1. Performs basic diagnostic x-rays supervised by a radiology technologist.
  2. Identifies and assists patients with questions about procedures.
  3. Prepares patients for exam and ensures patient safety in the absence of the radiology technologist.
  4. Obtains medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast media materials as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist, or registered nurse.
  5. Assists physicians and technologists in the performance of diagnostic exams based on assigned modality and career pursuits (Rad/Fluro, CT, IR, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, Ultrasound), including procedures requiring contrast media administration.
  6. Retrieves patient orders and requisitions while supporting administrative or miscellaneous work tasks in the RIS, EMR, or other standard applications required in the workflow for diagnostic exams.
  7. Assists patients with restroom needs, bedpans, urinals, and other clinical support tasks as required.
  8. Supports administrative duties, quality assurance, safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requires moderate to heavy physical effort in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting. Frequent stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, or kneeling. Exposure to various physical conditions such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, and proximity to moving equipment. Must follow radiation safety guidelines, MRI safety protocols, and infection control procedures.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

High School Diploma or GED with preliminary coursework toward a certificate or degree in a medical imaging field. Clinical experience related to the educational program. Medical clerical skills preferred.
