Overview

Job Summary

Performs a variety of patient care duties and other professional activities as needed to facilitate patient care and treatment. Performs under the supervision of a radiology technologist. Assists in monitoring the flow of patient activities in the department.

Essential Functions

  • Performs basic diagnostic x-rays supervised by a radiology technologist.
  • Identifies and assists patients with questions about procedures.
  • Prepares patients for exams and ensures patient safety in the absence of the radiology technologist.
  • Obtains medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast media materials as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist, or registered nurse.
  • Assists physicians and technologists in the performance of diagnostic exams based on assigned modality and career pursuits (Rad/Fluro, CT, IR, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, Ultrasound), including procedures requiring the administration of contrast media.
  • Retrieves patient orders and requisitions while supporting administrative or miscellaneous work tasks in the RIS, EMR, or other standard applications required in the workflow for diagnostic exams.
  • Assists patients with restroom needs, bedpans, urinals, and other ancillary clinical support requirements.
  • Supports administrative duties, quality assurance, safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requires moderate to heavy physical effort in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operations. Frequently may need to stretch, bend, twist, squat, or kneel in daily clinical activities. May be exposed to physical conditions such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, and being near moving equipment. Must follow radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizing radiation, MRI safety protocols, and infection control procedures as dictated by the procedural area.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

High School Diploma or GED with preliminary coursework toward a certificate or degree in a medical imaging field. Clinical experience based on an educational program related to a career in medical imaging. Medical clerical skills are preferred.
