Job summary

Denver Health is seeking a Radiology Technologist to join our Radiography department. Under a radiologist, you will perform general radiographic examinations and fluoroscopic imaging with attention to ionizing radiation safety and patient care.

Strong technical skills and prudent judgment are essential for this role. Responsibilities include data entry in PACS/Epic, patient transport, maintaining equipment, and participating in departmental meetings and in-services.

Qualifications

  • Uses PACS/EHR systems to input data and manage orders and documentation.
  • Maintains patient safety, transports patients as needed, and ensures care standards.
  • Assists with inventory, equipment cleaning, and participation in department meetings.
  • Supports department huddles and in-services to stay aligned with procedures.

Job Summary

Under the direction of a radiologist, performs general radiographic examinations at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Performs a variety of technical imaging procedures that entail application of ionizing radiation; therefore, prudent judgment, strong technical skills, and commitment to patient safety are considered requisite professional characteristics for individuals assuming the position as a general radiologic technologist.

Essential Functions
  • Performs high quality general radiographic/fluoroscopic imaging studies by selecting specific software parameters that will produce a quality image for use by radiologists in their determination of a diagnosis. To provide the necessary data for radiologists to interpret images, the technologist scans all relevant clinical information into the PACS, assigns prioritization box for the radiologists' worklist, and then transmits current to the PACS. These activities must be completed immediately following examination completion, not to exceed 1 hour. Prepares and assists in administering contrast agents and determines any potential allergies to ensure compliance with departmental practices. (50%)
  • Uses Epic to input patient examination data and to place patient orders, when appropriate. Notates within the appropriate electronic/hardcopy document, as necessary, all pertinent patient information to comply with patient screening, ordering, charting, and medical record requirements (15%)
  • Ensures patient safety, comfort, and personal dignity by following appropriate patient care guidelines to include use of 2 patient identifiers. Transports patients to and from the Department of Radiology, as needed, to prevent patient flow delays. (15%)
  • Assists in the maintenance of department inventory by ordering, stocking, and performing inventory checks on those medical supplies utilized when performing general radiographic examinations. (10%)
  • Attends and participates in departmental huddles, general intradepartmental meetings, and Radiology's inservices. (5%)
  • Maintains imaging and processing equipment by performing scheduled cleanings and tests; results of all cleanings and tests are documented, as appropriate. Contacts service personnel and notifies supervisory staff of equipment malfunctions. Maintains a clean and orderly working environment through wiping down examination tables, changing linens, stocking supplies, and washing/disinfecting general radiographic equipment. (5%)
Education

Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program AART required within 3 years of start date based on State of Colorado Statute

Work Experience

less than 1 year of professional work experience in performing general radiographic/fluoroscopic procedures

Licenses
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
  • RTR-RT Radiography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge in how to operate general radiographic equipment and related technology.
  • Demonstrated competency in the performance of general radiographic imaging studies.
  • Knowledge of how to address age‑specific care needs of patients and effective interpersonal skill sets that lead to productive communications and collaborations.
  • Competency in interpreting physician order requests for general radiographic imaging studies.
  • Ability to exercise prudent judgment in selecting and configuring equipment settings to compensate for patient physiologic variances.
  • Ability to consistently produce quality images of various anatomical structures.
  • Ability to handle patient specimens and laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to maintain the expected level of competency.
  • Knowledge of safety and infection control practices to ensure a safe environment of care.
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience required.
  • Electronic Health Management experience preferred.
