Job summary

Dignity Health - Mercy Medical Center in Merced, CA is seeking a Radiologic Technologist to perform diagnostic imaging including X-ray, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT, and MRI while ensuring patient comfort and safety and collaborating with Radiologists to deliver high-quality studies.

Requirements include CA Radiographer license, BLS/CPR, ARRT registration in Radiography, and fluoroscopy credentials; willingness to take call and rotate weekends; HIPAA compliance is essential.

Qualifications

• CA Radiographer license required upon hire.
• Basic Life Support (CPR/BLS) required upon hire.
• Registered Technologist in Radiography (ARRT) required upon hire.
• Fluoroscopy Radiology Tech credential in CA required upon hire.
• Willing to take call and work weekends on a rotational basis.
• Quarterly AHA RQI competency certification post-hire is required.

Responsibilities

• Instructs and prepares patients for radiographic or fluoroscopy exams based on age/size/condition; adjusts technique for optimal images.
• Interacts with coworkers to deliver quality patient care; ensures correct patient positioning and imaging choice.
• Uses radiation safety practices; operates portable imaging equipment and transports it as needed.
• Maintains equipment and area; documents duties and reports failures; ensures patient safety during procedures.
• Ensures timely, high-quality imaging and communicates issues to Radiologist.
• Follows HIPAA and hospital policy requirements for patient privacy and PHI security.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Radiologic Technologist (Rad Tech), you will be pivotal in producing diagnostic images that enable Radiologists to accurately diagnose and manage patient conditions.Each day, you will perform a variety of imaging examinations, including X-rays, ultrasound, diagnostic fluoroscopy, CT/CAT scans, and MRIs, while actively contributing to a positive patient experience through direct interaction.To excel, you must deeply understand diagnostic imaging's critical importance, encompassing expertise in workflow, patient positioning, and capturing precise results essential for timely and accurate diagnoses.

• Using a knowledge of diagnostic procedures, instructs and prepares patients based on age, size or disorder of patient for radiographic or fluoroscopy examinations to assure patient cooperation during the procedure. Using knowledge of correct radiographic positioning and anatomy based on age, size or disorder of patient, positions patient and equipment so as to obtain a clear and undistorted view of the area being examined. Confirms correlation of the patient clinical history with the exam being ordered
• Interacts with co workers and staff from other departments in a positive manner to deliver quality patient care. Based on the age, disorder, education, psychological needs and size of the patient, makes adjustments to the radiographic technique to obtain optimal diagnostic images. Prepares patients for radiology procedures including explaining exam and instructing patients to remove any personal items or clothing that will compromise image quality.
• Uses knowledge of radiation safety, collimates the x-ray beam and uses shielding appropriately to assure optimal patient and operator safety from exposure to radiation. Competently operates portable imaging equipment. Transports portable equipment to the nursing units. Follows nursing unit requirements to maintain a safe environment for patients and medical personnel. Uses knowledge of film processing or digital image manipulation to ensure optimal image processing. Reviews and evaluates completed tests for quality and completeness based on age, size or disorder of patient. Communicates with Radiologist issues that may affect quality or ability to obtain the required images.
• Monitors the patient during and after procedure to insure the patient's safety. Transports patients from the nursing units safely. Maintains assigned area and equipment. Maintains competence in the operation of all equipment used. Reports equipment failures and promptly initiates corrective action. Transport equipment to other areas as required. Practices effective radiation protection when using portable x-ray equipment on the nursing units. Assumes responsibility for completion of all assigned duties and responsibilities. Provides documentation of duties to supervisor as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
• Ensures optimum operation of the department through good attendance history and flexibility with assigned shift. Is on time for scheduled shift.
• HIPAA - Basic expectations of the Employee based upon Corporate HIPAA Compliance: Patient Privacy: Demonstrates work place practices that maintain patient privacy and confidentiality. Consistently follows regulatory, JCAHO, Dignity Health, and hospital policy requirements relating to the disclosure of and/or access to Protected Health Information (PHI). Review Network Usage Policy and signed acknowledgement form annually. Patient Information Security: Demonstrates work place practices that maintain the security of protected health information including maintaining PHI in a secure work environment, reporting suspected breaches of PHI security to Management or Privacy Officer, and following all policies and regulatory requirements for the safeguarding of PHI.
