Mobridge Regional Hospital is seeking a limited-scope radiology operator to perform radiographic examinations within the scope of training and certification, ensuring quality diagnostic images and compassionate patient care.

Full-time position with rotation call hours; responsibilities include patient communication, image acquisition, documentation, and collaboration with radiologists and staff while maintaining HIPAA compliance and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Must have or be in process of completing a limited-scope radiography program.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn electronic medical record and imaging systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform limited-scope radiographic examinations within approved areas and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and facility protocols.
• Verify physician orders and patient identification before performing examinations.
• Prepare and maintain imaging rooms and equipment.
• Explain procedures to patients and provide positioning instructions.
• Operate radiographic equipment safely and according to manufacturer and facility procedures.
• Enter orders and process images for radiologist interpretation.
• Assist with PACS functions and image management.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and infection control.

Position Summary:

The limited scope radiology operator performs authorized radiographic examinations within the scope of their training, certification, and applicable state regulations. This position is responsible for obtaining quality diagnostic images while providing safe, respectful, and compassionate patient care. The operators work closely with radiologists off site, radiologic technologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to support efficient imaging services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform limited-scope radiographic examinations within approved anatomical areas and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and facility protocols.
• Verify physician orders and patient identification before performing examinations
• Obtain and document appropriate patient history and relevant clinical information
• Explain procedures to patients and provide clear instructions regarding positioning and breath-holding when appropriate
• Position patients accurately and safely to obtain diagnostic-quality images
• Operate radiographic equipment safely and according to manufacturer and facility procedures
• Evaluate images for positioning, exposure, and technical quality and repeat examinations when appropriate and within the operator’s scope
• Maintain accurate patient and examination documentation
• Follow established infection control, patient safety, and radiation safety procedures
• Prepare and maintain imaging rooms and equipment
• Clean and disinfect equipment and patient-contact surfaces between examinations
• Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly to the appropriate supervisor
• Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies
• Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, radiologists technologists, and other healthcare team members
• Assist with patient transfers and mobility while following appropriate safety procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned and permitted by applicable credentials and regulations
• Enter orders and process images for radiologist interpretation
• Assist with PACS functions, sending images, file image importing and exporting
• Monitor supply inventory and notify appropriate personnel when stock is low

Qualifications

• high school diploma or equivalent
• completion or commitment to completion, on the job, of an approved limited-scope radiography program
• basic computer skills and ability to learn electronic medical record and imaging systems

Physical Requirements

• ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• ability to assist with patient positioning and transfers
• ability to push or pull imaging equipment as required
• ability to lift and move equipment and supplies in accordance with facility guidelines
• ability to bend, reach, kneel, and perform other physical activities associated with patient care and radiographic procedures

The limited scope radiology operator will work in a hospital, physician office, orthopedic, and emergency setting. The position involves working around medical equipment and may involve exposure to radiation, bodily fluids, and infectious materials. Appropriate safety training and personal protective equipment will be provided.

Scope of Practice

The limited scope radiology operator may perform only those radiographic procedures and duties permitted by their certification, training, state law, or facility policy. The operator must not perform examinations, operate equipment, or undertake responsibilities outside their authorized scope.
