General Description:

The Dental Hygiene curriculum prepares graduates for positions as oral health clinicians and educators in private practice sites, schools and alternative practice settings.

The program includes both classroom study and experiential clinical learning. The hands-on clinical training is conducted on campus in a 16-chair, free dental hygiene clinic. During clinical rounds, students will have the opportunity to treat diverse patient demographics, many with advanced periodontal disease.

The Radiology Aid will work with the Curriculum Coordinator and the faculty members in monitoring the students during patient radiation exposure.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Enforce patient safety by monitoring the students during patient radiation exposure to prevent unnecessary or unwarranted radiation exposure.

  • Ensure students are only taking prescribed radiographs.

  • Complete all necessary data collection.

  • Count, distribute, and collect plates and sensors.

  • Assess student series for additional necessary retakes.

  • Ensure aseptic techniques are followed during procedures.

  • Assist students who have technique questions or issues.

  • Monitor and maintain equipment safety.

  • Monitor, maintain, and update software.

  • Ensure students are complying with professionalism and clinic protocols.

  • Monitor and maintain plates and sensors.

  • Complete daily audits of radiology images.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current Dental Assistant with an Associates degree is required.

  • Active PA Radiology License is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

  • Familiarity with dental hygiene and dental assisting programs and working with students is preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience teaching diverse student populations and addressing equity gaps.

  • Demonstrated experience teaching within a community college.

  • Bilingual or other language proficiency.
