Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • Certification by the ARRT as a Radiologist Assistant (R.R.A).
  • BLS and ACLS certifications.

Role Overview: Radiologist Assistant

The Radiologist Assistant is responsible for:

  1. Evaluating the appropriateness of patient examinations, contraindications, lab data, explaining procedures, and obtaining consent.
  2. Collaborating with referring physicians and nurse coordinators to gather patient history, review imaging with radiologists, and facilitate procedures.
  3. Performing interventional and diagnostic procedures within their competency and as delegated by supervising physicians, following Radiology Assistant protocols and ARRT role delineation.
  4. Making initial observations and documenting methods.
  5. Communicating findings to radiologists or nuclear medicine physicians for official interpretation.
  6. Documenting cases and communicating with involved clinicians before, during, and after exams or procedures.
  7. Collaborating with colleagues to develop, implement, and evaluate clinical practice guidelines.
  8. Assisting medical students, residents, and fellows during rotations.
  9. Teaching healthcare professionals about patient management in Radiology.
  10. Providing leadership within the division to resolve problems and enhance patient care.
  11. Participating in research and quality improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (for those who began R.R.A. certification before January 1, 2023) or Master's Degree.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • Certification by the ARRT as a Radiologist Assistant (R.R.A).
  • BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Massachusetts Radiologist Assistant License.
