Job summary

University Hospital is seeking a Radiological Technician I to provide x-ray services for inpatients and outpatients, adhering to ALARA principles and NJDEP standards. The role emphasizes professional interaction with patients and hospital staff while delivering diagnostic radiographs for licensed practitioners.

The candidate should have a current NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography license, ARRT certification or eligibility, and be able to pass medical and respirator fit testing.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a current NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography license and ARRT certification or be ARRT eligible.
  • One year of experience in Diagnostic Radiology preferred. Computer literacy.
  • Training to become proficient in Bone Density scans and maintain BLS/CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Explain the exam to the patient per age-specific needs.
  • Position and image patients according to protocols and equipment.
  • Determine proper radiographic technique exposure factors.
  • Verify informed consent where required.
  • Access and review images in RIS/PACS and correlate with clinical history.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and provide instructions to minimize anxiety.
  • Independently operate radiology equipment and calibration tools.

About The Role

The primary purpose of the Radiological Technician I position is to provide x-ray services for inpatients and outpatients of the University Hospital. Performs radiographic procedures and other functions related to the production of x-rays of accurate and diagnostic radiographs for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment throughout the performance of his/her duties and maintains a demeanor that supports the values and mission of The University Hospital. Contributes and functions as a cohesive member of the department, ensuring that all interaction with patients, physicians, nurses, administrators, and other members of the hospital staff are professional and in accordance with the established guidelines of the institution. Performs procedures in compliance with NJ Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) standards and the principals of As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA).

Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
  • Explains the exam to the patient according to age-specific needs to gain cooperation, minimize anxiety and optimize desired results.
  • Positions, immobilizes, and images patients according to approved departmental protocols as well as equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability. Selects appropriate pulsing sequences respecting established protocols and other factors influencing acquisition parameters.
  • Determines proper and satisfactory radiographic technique exposure factors.
  • Verifies informed consent where required.
  • Scans and accesses patient record via Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archive Communications System (PACS).
  • Accesses images for review on the console of the CT, MRI and Interventional Suite as well as from PACS.
  • Corroborates patients clinical history with procedure assuring information is documented.
  • Prepares patient for procedures; providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Independently operates and cares for equipment and other technical instruments/associated equipment to achieve desired results used for administration of contrast agents, patient monitoring, surgical instruments to achieve desired results.
  • Selects appropriate program respecting established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring
Required
  • Must possess a current NJ Department of Environmental Protection Diagnostic Radiography license and current ARRT certification or be ARRT eligible.
  • One (1) year of experience in Diagnostic Radiology preferred. Computer literacy.
  • The successful candidate will be trained to become proficient in Bone Density scans and maintain valid certification by the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR.
  • The individual must be able to pass a medical evaluation and a respirator fit test and wear an N95 particulate filter respirator mask in accordance with PEOSHA standards as a condition of employment.
  • Annual Respirator Fit Testing required.
  • Must be certified in the service to which the candidate is applying MRI; Cat Scan (CT); Angiography.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is TT/2800: Probationary Rate $42.34 - Job Rate $42.84- Two (2) Year Rate - $$44.127 , in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
