Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a CT Radiology Technologist to assess patients and safely perform routine CT procedures. You will mentor junior staff and students while upholding radiation safety protocols.

Completion of an approved radiologic technology program is required, with ARRT/CT registry eligibility and active state licensure. BLS is required; CT certification is preferred within a year of eligibility. The role demands flexibility, with shifts including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an approved radiologic technology program.
  • ARRT certification or CT registry eligible with CT within 90 days; temporary state license.
  • BLS certification required; advanced CT certification preferred within one year of eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies physician order to assure accuracy.
  • Operates imaging equipment per protocol (including IV placement).
  • Reviews patient images for diagnostic quality before transmission.
  • Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
  • Assists in departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance).
  • Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.

Job description

Job Summary

This job assesses patients and safely performs routine computed tomography procedures in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Education

Completion of an approved radiologic technology program.

Work Experience

None required.

Preferred – CT experience.

Certifications
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or computed tomography ARRT (CT) certified OR ARRT registry eligible, registered within 90 days of employment, and temporary state license.
  • CT registry eligible within one year.
  • Advanced certification in CT within one year of becoming CT registry eligible.
  • Current unrestricted license in state of practice.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Preferred – Advanced certification in CT by a mechanism acceptable to ARRT.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of CT procedures and technical language.
  • Ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure.
  • Self‑directed and able to function without direct supervision.
  • Flexibility in work duties and hours, including nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, and travel among facilities.
  • General knowledge of cardiac anatomy, Doppler physics, and hemodynamics related to disease states.
  • Ability to preliminarily identify stenosis or occlusion based on nationally published criteria.
  • Ability to assist attending physicians with interventional procedures requiring ultrasonic guidance.
Job Duties

  • Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol (including IV placement).
  • Reviews patient images before transmission to ensure diagnostic quality.
  • Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and performs notification/remediation as warranted.
  • Assists in facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy and tailoring communication style.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium work – requires occasional lifting of 20 to 50 pounds, frequent lifting of 10 to 25 pounds, and constant exertion of up to 10 pounds. Work may involve walking, standing, pushing, pulling, and operating at a production pace. Duties routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue, and may pose a risk of exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste.
