Radiologic Technologist

POSITION: Radiologic Technologist

RESPONSIBLE TO: Rad Tech Lead / Practice Administrator

JOB SUMMARY: Perform diagnostic x-ray examinations under the medical supervision of providers in a clinical setting, produces images for interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Provide information to diagnose patient problems by operating radiologic equipment to produce radiographs. Responsible for developing a high-functioning team in Radiology in addition to performing daily work.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma required.
  • Completion of accredited Radiologic Technology program or Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology.
  • Current certification (ARRT) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Current State permit to practice as a General Diagnostic Radiographer.
  • Current BCLS certification.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of state specific and OSHA requirements regarding radiological procedures.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Duties:

  • Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements, troubleshooting malfunctions and calling for repairs.
  • Anticipates needed supplies, checking stock to determine inventory level.
  • Maintains safe and clean environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality, complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by Orthopaedic Specialists.
  • Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions.
  • Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Maintains production and quality of radiographs by following established standards and procedures; developing radiographs; checking films; making necessary adjustments.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures on patients to meet the established practice parameters and standards of care, including:
    • Proper positioning/centering of part/patient
    • Proper technical factor selection
    • Proper image/patient identification
    • Proper use of image receptors
    • Proper, professional patient care and assessment
    • Proper radiation protection provided for patient/staff/general public
    • Proper documentation maintained.
  • Attends continuing medical education courses as requested.
  • Attends all regular staff meetings.
  • Completes all other duties assigned by the manager.

  • Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions.

  • Attends continuing education courses as requested.

  • Attends all meetings as requested.

  • Performs any additional duties as requested by Director / physicians.
