This job assesses patients and safely performs routine radiographic procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Education

Required - Completion of an approved radiologic technology program.

Work Experience

Required - None.

Preferred - Radiologic technology experience.

Certifications

Required - Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR eligible for ARRT registration, with registration completed within 90 days of employment, and a temporary state license required.

Current unrestricted license in the state of practice.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekends, holidays, on-call) and travel between facilities.

Job Duties

  • Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
  • Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
  • Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
  • Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedures according to protocol (may include placement of nasogastric tubes, IVs, urinary catheters, and administration of contrast).
  • Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
  • Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and performs notification/remediation as needed.
  • Assists in departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy, explaining procedures appropriately, requesting permissions, and using suitable communication styles.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements exceed those for Sedentary Work. Even with negligible weight, the job may require significant walking, standing, or working at a production pace.

Routine duties involve exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues. The role involves working directly with patients and specimens that could contain diseases, with potential occupational risks for exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials.

Because of the healthcare setting, there may be occupational risks related to hazardous medications or waste.
