Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Radiologic Technologist to operate MRI equipment and prepare patients for exams. You will explain procedures, ensure consent, and set up the scanner promptly.

The role includes performing MRI studies across various regions and assisting the Radiologist with IV contrast and image management. Requirements include graduation from an accredited program, NY/CT licensure, ARRT RT with MRI certification within 18 months, and at least six months of radiology experience; BLS

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • New York State and/or Connecticut licensure as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • ARRT Registered Technologist (R.T.) with MRI certification required within 18 months of entry date.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for examination.
  • Explains procedure in layman terms to relieve patient anxiety.
  • Sets up equipment to administer the proper procedure in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures patient is screened per protocol and consent obtained.
  • Performs MRI procedures including abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, and extremities.
  • Positions patient and enters history data for requisition.
  • Calculates number of scans based on patient size and validates images.
  • Contacts Radiologist to review if additional scanning is needed.
  • Operates image transfer and PACS archiving.
  • Assists Radiologist with administration of IV contrast.
  • Monitors patient and reports changes in condition.
  • Performs minor repairs/calibration and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Reports major problems for prompt resolution.
  • Supports patient flow including scheduling and premedication.
  • Performs related duties; all essential per ADA.

Job description

Operates Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment. Prepares patient for exam, ensures enough information has been obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis, assists in the management of patient flow and presents images mounted for physician diagnosis.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepares patient for examination
  • Explains procedure in layman terms to relieve patient of anxiety
  • Sets-up equipment to administer the proper procedure in a timely fashion
  • Ensures patient is screened according to protocol, and assures consent for the procedure has been obtained, when necessary
  • Performs MRI procedures to include: abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, and extremities
  • Places patient on the exam table and positions within the gantry
  • Keys in patient history data and other pertinent information obtained from a requisition completed by the referring physician who includes anatomical area of interest, slice thickness and pulse sequences
  • Calculates the number of scans to be obtained based on patient size, and operates the equipment ensuring the required images were obtained as ordered by the Radiologist
  • Contacts Radiologist to review and ascertain whether additional scanning is required
  • Operates equipment for the transfer of computed images to film, the archival of disc memory to tape, and proper use of PACS System
  • Assists the Radiologist with administration of I.V contrast
  • Monitors patient condition and directly observes patient during the examination
  • Recognizes and promptly reports to the radiologist, changes in the patient's condition and/or motor abnormality complaints by the patient including: fainting, discoloration, etc
  • Performs minor repairs and frequent calibration checks and adjusts equipment, when necessary
  • Troubleshoots mechanical problems of the equipment by performing minor repairs, as necessary
  • Recognizes and reports major problems to management to ensure prompt resolution
  • Assists in patient flow including scheduling exams; assuring patients are sent for in advance of scheduled exam; assuring premedication has been administered on the unit; and completing exams

Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program
  • New York State and/or Connecticut Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist, required.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registered Technologist (R.T.) required for positions filled after September 5, 2010. ARRT registration in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) required within eighteen (18) months of entry date into positions filled after September 5, 2010.
  • Minimum of six (6) months experience as a Radiology Technologist, required. Previous MRI experience, preferred.
  • BLS through the American Heart Association
