Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Radiologic Technologist to operate MRI equipment and prepare patients for examinations in our New York facility. You will set up the MRI procedure, ensure patient safety, and document data for radiologist review.

Responsibilities include performing abdominal, thoracic, neurological, and extremity MRI studies, positioning patients, monitoring during exams, and assisting with contrast administration as needed. Prior MRI experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • New York State and/or Connecticut licensure as Radiologic Technologist.
  • ARRT Registered Technologist (R.T.) or MR-IR eligible within 18 months.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for examination

  • Sets up MRI equipment for procedures
  • Ensures patient is screened and consent obtained when necessary
  • Performs MRI procedures (abdomen, thoracic, neurological, extremities)
  • Positions patient on exam table and within gantry
  • Enters patient data and requisition details
  • Calculates number of scans and verifies images
  • Contacts Radiologist for review of need for additional scanning
  • Transfers images to PACS and archives discs
  • Assists with IV contrast administration
  • Monitors patient during examination
  • Reports changes in patient condition to radiologist
  • Performs minor repairs/calibrations and troubleshoots equipment
  • Alerts management to major equipment issues
  • Assists in scheduling exams and patient flow

Job description

Operates Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment. Prepares patient for exam, ensures enough information has been obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis, assists in the management of patient flow and presents images mounted for physician diagnosis.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares patient for examination
  • Explains procedure in layman terms to relieve patient of anxiety
  • Sets-up equipment to administer the proper procedure in a timely fashion
  • Ensures patient is screened according to protocol, and assures consent for the procedure has been obtained, when necessary
  • Performs MRI procedures to include: abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, and extremities
  • Places patient on the exam table and positions within the gantry
  • Keys in patient history data and other pertinent information obtained from a requisition completed by the referring physician who includes anatomical area of interest, slice thickness and pulse sequences
  • Calculates the number of scans to be obtained based on patient size, and operates the equipment ensuring the required images were obtained as ordered by the Radiologist
  • Contacts Radiologist to review and ascertain whether additional scanning is required
  • Operates equipment for the transfer of computed images to film, the archival of disc memory to tape, and proper use of PACS System
  • Assists the Radiologist with administration of I.V contrast
  • Monitors patient condition and directly observes patient during the examination
  • Recognizes and promptly reports to the radiologist, changes in the patient's condition and/or motor abnormality complaints by the patient including: fainting, discoloration, etc
  • Performs minor repairs and frequent calibration checks and adjusts equipment, when necessary
  • Troubleshoots mechanical problems of the equipment by performing minor repairs, as necessary
  • Recognizes and reports major problems to management to ensure prompt resolution
  • Assists in patient flow including scheduling exams; assuring patients are sent for in advance of scheduled exam; assuring premedication has been administered on the unit; and completing exams
  • Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program
  • New York State and/or Connecticut Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist, required.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registered Technologist (R.T.) required for positions filled after September 5, 2010. ARRT registration in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) required within eighteen (18) months of entry date into positions filled after September 5, 2010.
  • Minimum of six (6) months experience as a Radiology Technologist, required. Previous MRI experience, preferred.
  • BLS through the American Heart Association
