Overview

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of related digital image management tasks as necessary, including exceptions and annotations. Maintains competency by demonstrating a complete working knowledge of all imaging equipment and supplies, including but not limited to mammography unit- digital 2D or 3D (tomosynthesis), breast ultrasound, invasive procedure supplies and/or trays. Responsibilities include:

  1. Performing patient assessment and screening, documenting pertinent clinical and family history.
  2. Reviewing patient’s prior imaging and history, consulting the Radiologist or ordering practitioner when needed.
  3. Performing visual breast exams based on patient communication and documenting findings.
  4. Selecting appropriate equipment for the patient and exam.
  5. Demonstrating proper positioning for screening, diagnostic, and/or invasive procedures.
  6. Providing radiation protection according to prescribed safety standards.
  7. Maintaining aseptic or sterile technique when performing biopsies, aspirations, or localizations.
  8. Assisting the performing clinician during invasive procedures.
  9. Critiquing images to determine diagnostic quality and adjusting factors if imaging needs to be repeated.
  10. Maintaining orderliness and cleanliness of the department and completing all aspects of a patient’s exam in a timely manner.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and/or participating in professional societies. Completes all mandatory educational requirements in a timely manner and may assist with training of Mammography students.


Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, successful completion of an approved course in Radiologic Technology, one year of experience conducting routine diagnostic procedures, and completion of an approved program in advanced modality or one year of experience in advanced modality. A bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology may substitute for the required experience in conducting routine diagnostic procedures. Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Diagnostic Radiology is required. Advanced registry is highly preferred and may be required for certain modalities.
