Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Radiologic Technologists (RTs) are responsible for preparing and positioning patients to obtain the most accurate images. Tasks may include assisting radiologists with procedures, administrative duties such as scheduling, and maintaining patient records.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Under general supervision, coordinate and supervise the activities of staff Radiologic Technologists, Nurses' Aides, and clerks. Schedule patient procedures and perform imaging according to protocol. Ensure availability of CT services across departments and facilities. Report to the Associate Director of Radiology.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Review exam orders, consult with radiologists, schedule patients, and arrange transportation as needed.
  2. Identify patients and document all relevant information in RIS and PACS systems.
  3. Prepare patients for radiological procedures, ensuring safety from infectious diseases/materials.
  4. Oversee work of radiologic staff and students, instructing on procedures and positions.
  5. Perform diagnostic x-rays.
  6. Conduct daily checks of imaging equipment, maintain logs, and ensure quality assurance.
  7. Report patient incidents following protocol.
  8. Adhere to radiation safety regulations and maintain equipment.
  9. Maintain a clean, safe environment for patients and staff.
  10. Perform duties during emergencies or disasters as needed.
  11. Engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education.
  12. Assist radiologists during procedures.
  13. Ensure examinations are documented and images reviewed in PACS.
  14. Maintain professionalism with patients, staff, and physicians.
  15. Protect patient privacy in compliance with HIPAA.
  16. Follow ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure.
Minimum Qualifications

Valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH. Cross-training in different modalities and settings is provided with a differential of $7,500 annually for levels II and III.
