This job assesses patients and safely performs routine radiographic procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Education

Required - Completion of an approved radiologic technology program.

Work Experience

Required - None.

Preferred - Radiologic technology experience.

Certifications

Required - Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR eligible, with registration within 90 days of employment, and a temporary state license.

Current unrestricted license in the state of practice.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call, and travel between facilities.

Job Duties

  • Verifies physician order and procedure accuracy.
  • Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
  • Explains procedures to patients to ensure understanding.
  • Operates equipment to complete imaging procedures according to protocol, including placement of nasogastric tubes, IVs, urinary catheters, and contrast administration.
  • Reviews images prior to transmission to ensure diagnostic quality.
  • Performs quality control procedures in compliance with standards.
  • Assists with departmental operations such as inventory, scheduling, and maintenance.
  • Adapts communication and behavior to the patient population, respecting privacy and obtaining permissions.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Other responsibilities include ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and standards, and maintaining knowledge of current federal, state, and local requirements.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Heavy physical work involving exerting force to move objects, exposure to blood and body fluids, and working directly with patients and specimens with potential disease exposure. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for disabilities.
