Job description





The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).

JOB SUMMARY:

Position works independently to complete a variety of routine, diagnostic radiology procedures to include common and special fluoroscopic exams of routine to moderate complexity. Provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and fluoroscopic procedures. Delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to diagnostic radiology exam standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service. Serves as a member of the direct patient care team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Promotes a positive work environment.
  • Collaborates with all members of the patient care team.
  • Uses peer-to-peer accountability towards department goals for retention and employee engagement.
  • Utilizes verbal, nonverbal & written communication to achieve mutual understanding.
  • Proactive in responding to patient needs.
  • Optimizes protocols to provide for better patient care, image quality and patient experience. This includespositioning, collimation, physiology, procedure preparation, technical factors and appropriate use of leadmarkers.
  • Assists physicians during diagnostic procedures or fluoroscopic procedures, including assisting with steriletechnique.
  • Utilizes AIDET incorporating Key Words and MANAGE UP techniques, when speaking to patientsand family members at an age-appropriate level.
  • Performs diagnostic radiologic procedures to include common, special and fluoroscopy diagnostic examsof moderate complexity.
  • Practices radiation safety and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable)
  • Follows safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly.
  • Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures.
  • Complies with job role, department and hospital safety standards, practices and policies.
  • Participates in WASTE walks and supports department LEAN projects.
  • Reports near misses and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safety reporting systemto improve processes and identify trends.
  • Performs imaging equipment quality control (QC) at required intervals to ensure all imaging equipment isin safe working order prior to use
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills to observe and proactively address patient reactions (i.e. medications) orpotential outcomes and obtains assistance, as appropriate.
  • Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges at the time serviceis delivered.
  • Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies.
  • Troubleshoots equipment failures and reports such failures to the appropriate department, and notifies his/her manager.
  • Maintains HIPPA compliance by protecting patient privacy.
  • Maintains constant Joint Commission and/or ACA Readiness.
  • Works in a high volume, stressful environment.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform theessential functions of this job, especially with regards to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a mannerconsistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Possesses basic computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems to include, Hospital/Radiology Information Systems and Office software to maintain patient and exam documents.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal and team player skills with all levels of the healthcare team and assuresdelivery of excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers.
  • Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision including, organizing workflow and activelyparticipating in problem-solving.

EQUIPMENT:

Standard office equipment; radiation producing equipment and digital equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work attire is scrubs.
  • Equipment you will be using:
    • Fixed and mobile radiographic and fluoroscopic units of various vendors
    • Electronic Health Record
    • PACS
  • May be asked to travel to other UTMB or CMC locations.
  • Required to participate in call, weekend, holiday, and disaster team rotations toinclude emergencies and severe weather.
  • May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens,ionizing & non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications and disoriented or combative patientsor others.
  • Must be able to push or pull a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to walk long distances.
  • Must be able to stand for a continuous 60 minutes at a time.
  • Some lifting, moving, and position of patients and equipment.

Work environment is located within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center. Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE :

  • Associates of Applied Science.
  • Graduate from an accredited radiography program.
  • No experience required.
  • Registered with American Registry for Radiology Technologist (ARRT-R).
  • Certified as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) by the Texas Medical Board.

Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
