Job description

Operates Computed Tomography (CT) Equipment

Prepares patients for examination, explains procedures, and ensures proper documentation. Maintains required records.

Responsibilities:
  1. Prepares patients for examination, explains procedures, and sets up equipment to administer the proper procedure in a timely fashion.
  2. Ensures that a consent form for IV contrast materials has been obtained and screens for pregnancy.
  3. Performs CT procedures including abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, extremities, sub-periosteal implant planning, radiation therapy treatment planning, biopsies, etc.
  4. Prepares and positions the patient on the exam table within the gantry.
  5. Adjusts settings for proper slice thickness and couch increment.
  6. Collaborates with Radiologist to extend parameters within established imaging protocols if needed.
  7. Uses special devices (e.g., bromide shield) to reduce radiation exposure to radiosensitive areas.
  8. Adjusts CT equipment for appropriate field of view, transmits cases via Tele-Radiology, and administers contrast agents as ordered, performing venipuncture when necessary.
  9. Explains IV contrast administration in layman's terms and completes related documentation.
  10. Uses appropriate techniques for IV line flush and administers contrast with a power injector, recognizing and assisting with contrast reactions.
  11. Performs related duties as required. All listed responsibilities are considered essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Qualifications:
  1. Vocational or technical school diploma required.
  2. Current license to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in New York State.
  3. Current ARRT Radiology registration, with additional certifications as needed.
  4. 1-3 years of relevant technical experience.
  5. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
