Operates Computed Tomography (CT) Equipment
Prepares patients for examination, explains procedures, and ensures proper documentation. Maintains required records.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares patients for examination, explains procedures, and sets up equipment to administer the proper procedure in a timely fashion.
- Ensures that a consent form for IV contrast materials has been obtained and screens for pregnancy.
- Performs CT procedures including abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, extremities, sub-periosteal implant planning, radiation therapy treatment planning, biopsies, etc.
- Prepares and positions the patient on the exam table within the gantry.
- Adjusts settings for proper slice thickness and couch increment.
- Collaborates with Radiologist to extend parameters within established imaging protocols if needed.
- Uses special devices (e.g., bromide shield) to reduce radiation exposure to radiosensitive areas.
- Adjusts CT equipment for appropriate field of view, transmits cases via Tele-Radiology, and administers contrast agents as ordered, performing venipuncture when necessary.
- Explains IV contrast administration in layman's terms and completes related documentation.
- Uses appropriate techniques for IV line flush and administers contrast with a power injector, recognizing and assisting with contrast reactions.
- Performs related duties as required. All listed responsibilities are considered essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Qualifications:
- Vocational or technical school diploma required.
- Current license to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in New York State.
- Current ARRT Radiology registration, with additional certifications as needed.
- 1-3 years of relevant technical experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
