Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Ambulatory Radiographer to provide high-quality diagnostic imaging in our outpatient setting in Illinois. The role emphasizes patient safety, strict adherence to imaging protocols, and timely exams.

The Radiographer will operate imaging equipment, administer contrast when indicated, and maintain documentation in the medical records system. BLS, IEMA accreditation, and ARRT R are required, with a focus on continuous quality and safety in imaging.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program.
• ARRT Radiography (R) certification required.
• Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) accreditation required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Maintains accountability for patient safety throughout the imaging process, including screening, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care.
• Produces diagnostic-quality images using approved protocols and professional standards.
• Apply professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.
• Reviews images prior to exam completion and initiates corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met.
• Administers contrast in accordance with policy, including screening for contraindications and patient monitoring (as applicable).
• Operates imaging equipment and maintains imaging room readiness.
• Identifies equipment performance issues and initiates follow-up through established service processes.
• Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies.
• Maintains accurate and timely documentation in medical record and image archive system, including exam set-up, image routing, result availability and charging accuracy.
• Adheres to organizational values, ethical standards, and compliance requirements.
• Consistently upholds all applicable quality and safety standards within diagnostic imaging, such as radiation safety, MRI safety, Infection prevention measures safe practices (as applicable to the role) to protect self, patients, visitors and team members
• Ensures a positive patient experience throughout care delivery
• Supports department initiatives to improve relationships, reliability, efficiency, growth
• Supports additional responsibilities aligned with patient care and department needs
• Performs general and / or fluoroscopic radiography in the outpatient setting.
