Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Radiologic Technologist specializing in breast imaging to perform mammographic procedures under limited supervision. You will handle dexascan and specialized breast imaging interventions including stereotactic biopsy, ultrasound core biopsy and cyst aspiration.

The role requires ARRT certification, AMA-approved training, an Ohio license, and BLS. You will ensure order accuracy, perform quality control, educate patients, and support radiologists in procedures.

Qualifications

• Must complete an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology training program.
• Must be ARRT registered; mammography registry within one year of hire.
• Must possess an Ohio license in the area of assignment; BLS/CPR as required.

Responsibilities

• Assesses orders and examinations for accuracy; performs quality mammography and bone density imaging.
• Performs quality control on equipment accurately and thoroughly.
• Educates patients regarding examinations and breast care; performs clerical tasks as assigned.
• Utilizes PACS and MagView for imaging management and reporting.
• Performs other duties as assigned; minimum of one year radiologic experience.

Purpose

Performs mammographic procedures at a technical level requiring limited supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures utilizing existing standards as a guide. Demonstrates the ability to utilize independent judgment in the completion of routine exams/procedures. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required including breast ultrasound, dexascan and specialized breast imaging interventions: Sterotactic Biopsy, Ultrasound Core Biopsy and Cyst Aspiration.

Responsibilities

• Assesses for accuracy of orders and examinations. Utilizes skills and equipment pertinent to obtaining quality mammography, images and bone density imaging. Performs quality control on all equipment accurately and thoroughly. Educates patients regarding examinations to be performed and general breast care. Performs clerical/support functions as assigned. Utililizes management information (PACS, Magview) appropriately and accurately.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• High School Graduate.
• Minimum of one year clinical experience within the general radiologic area, with a thorough understanding of departmental function.

Demonstrates the ability to consistently perform mammography imaging as well as assist the radiologist with procedures. Must demonstrate strong technical and clinical skills and possess the ability to recognize changes in patient response and initiate appropriate modifications to routines.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

Satisfactory completion of a formal Radiologic Technology training program in an A.M.A. Approved school. Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or other recognized credentialing body. Must obtain registry in mammography within one year of hire date. May be required to possess specialty credential in addition to ,R.T.-M, ie. sonography or bone densitometry. Must possess current Ohio license within area of assignment. BLS provider or obtain within 3 months of hire.
