Description
Job Summary

The Radiologic Technologist’s primary job function is to provide patient care and technical skills in the operation of diagnostic radiographic equipment for diagnostic and evaluation purposes.

Job Specific Competencies
  • Clinical Skills:
    • Performs routine x‑ray procedures as needed, including image production, archiving, and related paperwork.
    • Operates computer and radiographic equipment for image production and documentation, while ensuring optimal image quality and maintaining ALARA principles.
    • Provides prompt, courteous service and effective communication with providers and staff.
    • Prepares patients for radiographic procedures by accurately assessing needs, providing education for all age‑specific groups, and ensuring patient safety during X‑ray exams, spirometry studies and EKG exams.
    • Provides timely follow‑through of appropriate radiographic diagnosis.
    • Instructs students on clinical radiographic skills following the appropriate curriculum provided by the college/university.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Demonstrates knowledge of billing process, image archiving, security, and tracking.
    • Maintains strict confidentiality/privacy of all patient information.
    • Attends department meetings, in‑services, and disaster drills.
    • Practices safety measures in radiography and Environment of Care.
  • Quality Improvement Activities:
    • Applies QI measures to monitor accuracy, completeness, and repeat rate for x‑rays.

Job Specifications
  • Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Completion of a recognized Radiologic Technologist Program from an accredited school.
  • Certification/Licensure: Must hold a current Washington State Radiologic Technologist Certification. Current Registered Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technicians (ARRT) preferred or registry eligible. Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR required or must be able to obtain within first 90 days of employment.
  • Experience: One year of experience in a health care environment. Previous experience in a community health center preferred.
  • Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Inputting data/typing, copying, handling/gripping, answering telephones, calibrating equipment, computer skills. Demonstrated ability to perform exams and to produce diagnostic films/images for interpretation. Knowledge of computer applications and equipment related to work. Effectively work in a multi‑task environment, prioritizing tasks properly, and completing tasks in a timely manner. Basic computer experience; adequate typing. Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work easily and in a friendly manner with the general public and occasionally handle hostile or disgruntled patients. Ability to work in a team environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively with other staff and management and with a wide range of patients. Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining productive work teams.
  • Essential Physical Requirements: Moderate physical activity. Requires standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Occasional light lifting necessary. Must be able to work under physical and emotionally stressed conditions. Other requirements include: light physical effort; repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and/or fingers, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling; frequent sitting; lifting and/or moving items weighing up to 20 pounds, with proper lifting techniques. Flexibility with schedule to cover hours possibly outside normal workweek, such as Saturdays or on‑call hours.
  • Essential Mental Abilities: Must be able to pay attention to detail, perform calculations and explain processes to patients. Ability to interpret and manipulate data, analyze, assess/evaluate, explain/teach, problem solve/reason, and exercise good judgment. Must demonstrate concern for accuracy and attention to detail. Knowledge of clinical policies and procedures. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Self‑directing and organized. Ability to reason objectively.
  • Essential Sensory Requirements: Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. Ability to see, hear, feel, verbally communicate. Ability to read computer keyboard, monitor, and documents; prepare and analyze documents; read extensively; receive and convey detailed information orally, by telephone and in person; convey accurate and detailed instructions by speaking to others in person and by telephone.
  • Exposure to Hazards: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Some exposure to toxic materials. Potential exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous waste. Potential for injuries, such as muscle strains, which require routine precautions.

Tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact exposure to blood, fluids or tissue. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), when appropriate, is required.

Paid Time Off (PTO)

Each year after that employee will accrue 8 hours of PTO each year, on their anniversary date, until they reach a maximum of 208 hours at 10+ years.

Paid Leave may be used immediately for sick leave and after 3 months employment for vacation. Maximum accrual cap of 320 hours; hours in excess of 320 hours will automatically transfer into the employee’s EIB.

Extended Illness Bank (EIB)

Allows for maximum accrual of 200 hours

PTO hours in excess of 320 will transfer into EIB. Employees are eligible to use EIB hours after at least 3 consecutive scheduled working days of PTO (max 24 hours) which have been used for a personal illness and/or a qualifying event under FMLA or the WA Family Care Act.

Holidays are calculated as 8‑hour days if full time, 1.0 FTE, and paid based on the calendar year (January 1 through December 31). If an employee starts after the calendar year has begun, holiday hours will be prorated based on remaining holidays in the calendar year and diversity days will be prorated as outlined below:

  • Jan 1‑April 30: 3 diversity days (24 hours if 1.0 FTE)
  • May 1 – August 31: 2 diversity days (16 hours if 1.0 FTE)
  • Sept 1 – Dec 31: 1 diversity day (8 hours if 1.0 FTE)

Tuition Reimbursement
