Job summary

UNC Health is looking for a Radiologic Technologist to perform diagnostic imaging procedures in Smithfield, North Carolina. You will conduct tests using radiology equipment, assist radiologists, and ensure patient safety while accommodating variable needs, mainly during nights and weekends.

The ideal candidate should possess an Associate’s degree in Radiologic Sciences and be registered or registry-eligible. A certification in Basic Life Support is also required. This per diem role offers compensation between $26.85 and $38.61 per hour based on experience.

Summary

Conducts routine procedures and tests using radiology equipment to acquire patient diagnostic data. Prepares for and assists the radiologist in completion of intricate radiographic procedures, including preparation and administration of contrast media and medications in accordance with state and federal regulations. Performs patient assessments, provides patient care, evaluates the appropriateness of examinations, and assesses the quality of radiographic images. Hours vary based on the needs of the department and are primarily nights and weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all aspects of General Diagnostic Radiology, adheres to Departmental Protocols and Policy, and maintains RT(R) credentials and Active Status.
  • Ensures correct patient demographic, emulsion markers, and examination requests are captured; critiques, orients, and saves all pertinent images; transmits QA‑edited images to PACS; documents completion or cancellation of procedures in RIS.
  • Conducts routine procedures and tests using radiology equipment to acquire diagnostic data.
  • Performs work in a timely manner, producing consistent high‑quality radiographic images; analyzes requests, draws appropriate conclusions, reviews orders and images, and correlates patient demographics.
  • Uses RIS, CIS, PACS, and SMS effectively to access information, document status, modify orders, complete exams, QC, and transmit information to PACS.
  • Verifies patient identity, obtains relevant history, verifies pregnancy status, assesses physical condition, develops an action plan, and ensures patient safety, including emergency response.
Education Requirements
  • Associate’s degree or completion of an accredited Radiologic Sciences Program. If the degree is not yet completed, candidates may be selected contingent upon completing the program within 90 days of hire.
Licensure & Certification Requirements
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Sciences or registry‑eligible and become registered within one (1) year from date of hire. Registry‑eligible candidates must provide a copy of the diploma from an accredited program and maintain registry status and continuing education requirements annually.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.

  • No prior experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements
  • Knowledgeable of radiation protection and safety, general and electrical safety, infection control, TB, and standard precautions.
