Job summary

UNC Health Care in North Carolina is seeking a Radiologic Technologist to conduct diagnostic procedures and assist in complex radiographic processes. You will ensure patient safety and comfort while preparing and administering contrast media and medications during examinations.

The ideal candidate will have an Associate's degree in Radiologic Sciences and must be registered or eligible to register within one year. This position requires strong knowledge of safety protocols and no prior experience is necessary.

Conduct routine procedures and tests using radiology equipment to acquire patient diagnostic data. Prepare for and assist the radiologist in completion of intricate radiographic procedures including preparation and administration of contrast media and medications in accordance with state and federal regulations. Perform patient assessments and provide patient care. Evaluate the appropriateness of examination and assess the quality of radiographic images. Hours vary based on needs of department – primarily nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of General Diagnostic Radiology, adhere to departmental protocols and policies, obtain RT(R) credentials and maintain active status, assist in troubleshooting equipment and protocol issues.
• Ensure correct patient demographic information, emulsion markers, and examinations; critique, orient, and save images; transmit QA‑ed images to PACS; document completion and/or cancellation of procedures in RIS; report equipment problems.
• Conduct routine procedures and tests using radiology equipment to acquire diagnostic data.
• Perform work timely, produce quality radiographic images consistently; analyze requests, draw conclusions, review orders and images, correlate patient demographics, maintain clean and safe environment, document incidents, advise supervisor of improvement opportunities.
• Use RIS, CIS, PACS, and SMS effectively to access information, document status, modify orders, complete exams, QC and transmit to PACS, verify data transmission.
• Verify patient identity, obtain relevant history, check pregnancy status before exposure, assess physical condition, develop action plans, determine need for additional personnel or equipment, assist patients requiring extra attention, respond to emergencies and ensure patient safety.

Qualifications

• Education Requirements: Associate's degree or completion of an accredited Radiologic Sciences Program; candidates may be selected contingent on completing a degree program within 90 days of hire.
• Licensure/Certification Requirements: Registered with American Registry of Radiological Sciences or eligible to register within one year; provide diploma if eligible; maintain registry status and continuing education annually. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
• Professional Experience Requirements: No prior experience required.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of radiation protection and safety, general and electrical safety, infection control, TB and standard precautions.
